Another update. The text in the upper right isn't set in stone; it's more of a place holder for right now. I'm most likely going to change the font to something pseudo-Greek-ish. Thanks to Coyote for the awesome gold-plating tut.
Looking very nice so far. The texture on the political shadings look great

First moutarde, and now you... I'm feeling left behind here. I just may have to try my hand at one of these myself at this rate!!
My finished maps
"...sometimes the most efficient way to make something look drawn by hand is to simply draw it by hand..."
It's certainly fun to work on, that's for sure! This is one of those rare times where the way I envisaged things looking in my head is the way they actually look as they're created.
Wow! This looks fantastic. I'll second Coyotemax's comment. I only wish I had time to begin a new project. Great work so far, I'm looking forward to watching the map progress.

Another update, with some artwork put in. Note: I didn't draw any of those alien heads; I've had them sitting around on my PC for months, years in a couple of cases. I unfortunately can't credit the artists as I don't remember where I originally found the pictures. But they DO look awesome...
I had to save it as a JPEG with a little less resolution, otherwise, it wouldn't have uploaded. Hopefully there's not too much pixellation.
Wow, that just looks fantastic! Great color scheme. I like the background maps as well. Good work Diamond.

Those insets are looking fantastic! The mountains in particular are working really well there. I have to ask though, do those enormous white dots on the main map represent cities?
Yep, those white dots are capital cities. Very LARGE capital cities.
A small update. Just some text added for now.
