August 2016 Mapping Challenge: Collegium Rite of Passage

Well, it's getting there! I've started putting up the buildings and vegetation around it... not done yet, but I have the preliminaries, anyway. Pretty soon I will be able to copy this over to complete the second floor! Then I can start the interiors of both floors.

I have run into a small snag... One of my talismans is supposed to be guarded by a sphynx... only I don't have a good sphynx. I found one that Lorelei suggested, only it's not a true sphynx, it's more like a chimera or manticore. So if anyone knows where I can find a sphynx, I woud greatly appreciate it!

Its coming along nicely now, Storm. The composition is a lot more balanced now you've filled in most of the areas that were blank before.

Ladiestorm, this isn't exactly a true sphinx, rather its a statue of Anubis (in animal form) for an Eqyptian themed city map I did last year. You can use it if its fits your theme though. It might need rescaling though - don't know what size you need.

You might not be satisfied with this, but the non-statue version pretty well lives up to the traditional greek definition of a winged sphinx is, which I assume is the same thing as your sphynx:

I haven't added much to this yet, I added a bit more to the labyrinth, and I added my sphynx! I still need one more symbol, which I will go searching for today. I figured the best creature to defend the Talisman of Wisdom, would be a giant great owl... but again, I have no such owl!

In the mean time, I realized something that's going to complicate matters just a tad... The fact that I have to keep this as a one story map! Since the thumbnail scraper will only pick up on one wip, I have to do it all in one level. That makes things a TAD more complicated, but I believe I have a handle on it... I just have to extend my map a bit, and re work my main building a bit. Other than that, this map continues!

You know how my brain works on patterns - identifying things that are the same, even if they're a real-world mile apart... well, might you consider rotating/reflecting a couple of those spruce trees?

Or even better, six different pine tree symbols. They're there. And they are pines, not spruces.

Pines then! Some kind of fluffy needle tree, anyway, LOL!

My father was a zoologist, my mother is a botanist! My brother and sister are also different kinds of scientists...

I was just the clueless air-brain of the family - and it shows
