Thanks for the comments, guys! I know I have a lot of fun working on this map, but it's always a pleasure to know that others enjoy this desert trip, too.
The shape of the mountain peaks is based on the Hoggar Mountains in the central Sahara; and the architecture is loosely inspired by ancient North Indian temples and, of course, Tatooine. I am glad this elements look well together on the same map.
Here is an update with flat colors and basic shadows; this is going pretty fast now, so I think that finishing this map before the deadline won't be a problem. And, to be honest, such great feedback from you all adds extra inspiration points to this project!
