July / Aug '18 Lite Challenge: Isles of Summer and Winter
Okay got hit by an idea for this pretty quickly, so I am gonna give it a shot...With a little twist.
The Summer Isles (sometimes referred to as the Seelie Court) and the Isles of Winter (sometimes referred to as the Unseelie Court). Rather than simply doing the same map twice, I am going to make them mirror images of each other, each depicting its own season. Plan to keep the basic terrain features in the same relative spots as well as other notable locations and what not. Not sure how it will work out, but hopefully it will be passable.

Okay, here we go, the first actual WIP for this challenge project. Made a few adjustments to the original layout dimensions to give myself room to work, added a central area for an "extra goodies map," tried my hand at some framing and dropped in a parchment texture for descriptive stuff later on. Not 100% sure about the framing just yet, so may fiddle around with that a bit more and see if I can come up with something I like better.

Took a little time to do a couple of relatively quick renders and slapped them in to see how they would look. The scaling may seem off at first glance but both renders were run from the exact same point of view. I have a potential fix for that, but it is going to call for a fair amount of geometry to get things to "match and line up better." In the long run it might turn out okay just as it is.

It has taken me a bit to get my groove going on this one (mostly cause we are in the middle of a heat wave and I have no AC), but started making progress. Got my basic shape set for the islands and managed some river and lake editing. Gonna have to tweak the coloring and texturing a bit at some point, but at least it is progress.

Very cool idea and presentation!
Very good so far. I like the layout and the maps are coming along very well. The concept works for the seasons theme.
