Thread: HRH's Glorious Kingdom of Midleset

Default HRH's Glorious Kingdom of Midleset

This a map of Midleset, one of the countries from my conworld Felmyr. It took me quite a while but I'm also quite happy with it. If you are familiar with my WIP Grimmsmouth map you may (or may not) be interested to know that city is the third largest found in this country.

The style of this map is heavily inspired by Atlantide by Warlin (which is a fantastic piece) and by this Austria-Hungary map which also fed into Warlin's own work. I'm grateful to both creators for their inspiration

    Thanks for looking,
    Weery.

    It's pretty cool.

Although I have to say Codpiece is a very strange surname.

Why did you choose to leave out the roadways? Just too much clutter?

    Hey Falconius,

Thanks so much for having a look and commenting

You're right of course, Codpiece is a ridiculous name But I can't help joking around for my own amusement with little details. Acting the bollox is an Irish expression that covers it nicely. But thanks for noticing!

And yes, I decided against putting in roads and villages due to clutter. That and the possibility that trying to fill in all of those details might have seen my sanity begin to leach away...

Oh btw, this is a very low res version of the original due to file size restrictions. So it's a bit choppy when zoomed in.

Thanks again for commenting, always appreciated

This is a very cool map - I love how the names all fit together, conveying an instant feel of Britishness.

    Hi Niels,

Thanks so much, I'm glad you liked the map. And thanks also for noticing how British all these names were, they took me bloody ages

    Nicely done!

My only little nag is that the grid is a bit overpowering, but that's more just personal taste.

Thanks SG I think I might try out toning down the grid to see how it looks, thanks so much for the feedback!

I agree with Steel General: the grid is a bit too dominant. Apart from that it's a beautiful map! The color scheme is very harmonious and I love the place names.
It's also nice to see the surroundings of Grimmsmouth.

Who did the grid? Codpiece or Fray?

I think it's a great piece of art.
