Hjaltland

Another one-day map from me. This time it is a foray into a style I am less familiar with, a more painterly style top-down map.

This is a strongly viking-inspired map; the region of Hjaltland is a sparsely populated large island settled into the icy grips of a far northern sea.

Ooh, nice! I really dig the style used here. The color are wonderful as well - love that dark ocean! The shield compass rose is a great idea. The mountain ranges are maybe a little too smooth for my taste, though.

The colors are excellent, I also like this dark blue ocean. Maybe the main ridges of your mountains could be underlined a bit more. I think they are maybe a little bit too parallel in a way, in some places.

Mmmh. Its like they are made in a different mood.

I really believe in moods.

Maybe i would try not using black, but having a de-saturated brown?

And have a light gray or warm gray glow.

Idk, i find the textures you create in the painting are AWESOME! seriously! But i find markers and text like from a different style.

Did I say already I love the map, yes?
