This a map of the Empire of Feldemar, a region in the homebrew world I built for my D&D group. This map is an internal political map of the Empire, depicting the domains of the Emperor's vassals:
"The Empire was initially formed from the tribal human nations that settled the peninsula over a millenia ago. Over time, powerful chieftains subjugated less powerful ones, eventually leading to the creation of the Empire by House .
The Empire grew in strength and size, subjugating it's neighbors and becoming the dominant power in the region.
However, the Empire is now on the decline, with rebellions diminishing the Empire's power and reach. From 767 to 774, the Empire fell into a brutal civil war over the Emperor's attempts to centralize his power.
The cost of the Civil War upon the Empire was immense, and left it permanently weakened. While still a powerful force, the Imperial army now found itself stretched thin and the Court unable to properly finance it. As a result, many of the EmpireÂ’s border forts and coastal defenses were abandoned, and opportunistic neighbors seized the opportunity this presented. The constant border and coastal raids by its neighbors have further drained the resources of the Empire, as it is forced to maintain large garrisons across the Empire at a time where its manpower and financial resources are severely depleted."
