October Challenge Round-up / New challenge announcement

Voting has concluded for the October challenge, and the winner has been declared. We'd like to offer well-deserved congratulations to Sapiento, who wins an amazing eighth gold compass, a fantastic achievement!

You can check out the winning map thread here.

Well done to everyone who entered. Voting was close, and the standard was very high. We hope you enjoyed taking part.

    But onto the new challenge!

As we approach the festive season, people are often much busier than normal, so instead of the usual one month duration, we're running this challenge until the New Year. The challenge is: Commission a Guilder.

Participants should team up with another Guild member, and each partner will provide a brief to the other describing the map they'd like created. There are no restrictions on subject or style. This will be left entirely up to entrants. The challenge is about successfully working to your partner's brief, with team work and co-operation an essential component.

We ran this challenge last year and it proved popular, so we're hoping to see some fun collaborations once again. Full details of how to participate in this thread.

    Site Funding Initiative

After last month's problems with server running costs (where members generously stepped in to help out) we're implementing a couple of new fund-raising options to hopefully avoid a recurrence.

The Guild has always had the option to make one-time donations, and this will continue. However, in order to allow better budgeting for maintenance costs and server upgrades, we're introducing some subscription options. Full details are in this thread, but the options are summarised below:

    Guild Supporter
Recurring payments of 30 dollars per year or 3 dollars per month will earn you the title of Guild Supporter, together the knowledge that you're helping out the site for no more than the price of a cup of coffee per month.

    Guild Sponsor
This level of support costs 90 dollars a year or 8 dollars a month. This will currently earn you the title of Guild Sponsor, and an ad-free experience while browsing the site.

Any and all contributions are gratefully received. If we can increase funding, this will allow us to offer perks such as larger file size uploads, upgraded forum software and a better experience all round.

Thanks for reading, and Happy Mapping!
