First attempt at coloring in a map. I used GIMP, mainly the airbrush and bucket tool for the colors. Probably a better way to do it, but that's all I know at this point. I see "traditional" fantasy maps all the time (trees, forests, grass, mountains, etc.) and wanted to try and go in a different direction.

"At the southern end of the Flat Fingers, where they disappear into the shifting sands of the Great Waste lies a small oasis along an ancient roadway. A road that was once paved by some long lost civilization, it now appears and vanishes as the sands blow. Anyone stopping to refill their water supplies will notice the small nomad encampment nearby. Perhaps they are open to trade, or perhaps not. Ruins of a watch post lies a little further away. Venturing nearer, one will hear the wind howling through the broken walls, or are those screams of the long dead soldiers that once served its garrison. Finally, hidden among the many plateaus and mesas lies a hermits dwelling.
