Meh, I work a lot with companies doing Urban Renewal projects (The joys of being a student working short term contracts, you get to work in just about every industry on the planet. Go Comp.Sci!) So I wouldn't feel too bad about eating a chunk out of that.
It is just making way for new construction!
Just like I do in Sim City...flatten a few blocks (in this case eat) then build anew.
