With the 69th Map of the Week we continue in the borderlands town of Óðinn's House in the Kingdom of Slovania. This week we take a look at the Star Temple, a temple that serves the twin star spirits Jitroní (Morning Star) and Večerní (Evening Star), known as the Zorja. Two shamans (both clerics), the 78-year-old Hermína and the 27-year-old Jiřina, serve here. They are the main sources of divine healing, resurrections, etc., in the Slovanian borderlands.

    Key to the Star Temple

Ground Floor – Main Temple Building

The many spiral stairways lead to meditation towers.

    1. Entryways.

    2. Seating Area. One of the main pursuits of Zorja was to teach followers how to find the path to enlightenment. The stone benches are mostly empty today. Hermína and Jiřina have little opportunity to teach.

    3. Starlight Altar. In earlier times when more worshippers came to the temple, the altar was the point from which the shamans did their teaching. It is used only rarely today.

    4. Statue of Jitroní, the morning star.

    5. Statue of Večerní, the evening star.

    Ground Floor – Shamans' Building

    4. Statue of Jitroní, the morning star.

    5. Statue of Večerní, the evening star.

    6. Entry.

    7. Reception. Jiřina can question quests through the window. If she decides to admit visitors to the inner areas, she will require them to turn over all weapons, which are kept in area 10 until the visitors depart. This also is the point where Jiřina will sell potions. She will make clear that the temple does not gurantee success, but that the fees, which must be paid in advance, are not refunded in the case of failure. Jiřina will not negotiate the fees, but she will negotiate over the form in which the fees are paid (i.e. coinage, jewels, etc.).

    8. Inner Entry.

    9. Corridor.

    10. Shamans' Workroom. In this area, he shamans have the laboratory where they make potions. The shelves contain work materials and documentation.

    11. Interview Room. When visitors seek healing and are admitted, they are brought into this room. Injured visitors and dead bodies can be placed upon the bed. Their companions will be invited to sit on the couches. Jiřina sits behind the desk and negotiates what will be done and the fees that are required. She will make clear that the temple does not gurantee success, but that the fees, which must be paid in advance, are not refunded in the case of failure. The shamans will not negotiate the fees, but they will negotiate over the form in which the fees are paid (i.e. coinage, jewels, etc.).

    12. Star Chamber Entry.

    13. Star Chamber. This area is the entryway to the Star Tower above. This area also is protected by star magic that suppresses normal, non-clerical magic. The star forms in the floor are symbols made of tin. They have no magical properties.

    14. Slab. The wounded and dead who are the targets of rites are placed upon the slab. The magic of the shamans elevates them to the Star Tower above. The shamans and other vistors use the spiral stairway.

    15. Entry to the Shamans' Quarters.

    16. Corridor.

    17. Bath Chamber with Jakes.

    18. Jiřina's Chamber.

    19. Hermína's Chamber.

    20. Supply Room.

Second Story – Shamans' Building, the Star Tower

The Zorja are two, and they require that two shamans perform all rites together.

    25. Slab. The wounded and dead who are the targets of rites are placed upon the slab on the ground floor and magically elevated into the Star Tower. The shamans and other vistors use the spiral stairway.

    26. The Great Bell. The first step in the performance of any rite is Jiřina's ringing of the bell.

    27. Desk with Documentation.

    28. Stellar Altar. Hermína begins her part of the rites here. When she ascends to the Star Dome (Area 30), Jiřina moves to the altar and continues her part of the rites here.

    29. Summoning Circle. While Hermína performs her initial part of the rites at the Stellar Altar (Area 2, Jiřina stands in the middle of the circle and summons the power of the stars into the tower.

    30. Spiral Stairway and Star Dome. The stairway begins on the ground floor and continues to the star dome in the roof of the shamans' building. Hermína ascends the stairway to the Star Dome for her final parts of the rites.

    31. Star Globes. After Jiřina has succeeded in summoning the power of the stars into the tower from area 29, the five glowing star globes of power will appear at the locations shown. Each star globe is deadly, with the same power as a starburst. The globes vanish when the rite is completed.
