Default [Award Winner} Bumpmaps in Photoshop - quick guide

    Hello,

I created a quick guide how to use bump maps in mapping. It is a step by step guide for beginners on this subject. When you have gone through this guide you know enough to start experimenting more.

Let me know if you have hard times with any of the steps or have any other comments.

EDIT (12-Dec): Added many new things to the tutorial and uploaded the newest version 1.1.
EDIT (13-Dec): Minor corrections - new version 1.1a

Yup, nice little tut there Pasis. I'm sure we'll be seeing many more textured battlemaps appearing on the site for a while.

The good thing is that with some modification and combinations with other methods, you can create great regional maps too.

Desaturating a normal map... That explains the peculiar lighting quality that I see in your maps that I never quite could figure out.

Nice tutorial. I seems to work in GIMP as well, with appropriate substitutions of course.

Glad to hear that this comes handy. I will add an update soon as there are couple of tricks that really help to get great results.

Thanks, I will hold off printing it then. This is one of those areas (like a lot of areas) that I can always use more help and ideas for how to implement them.
