Try putting an empty layer just under the threshold and then airbrush white and black on that layer. Use a very low opacity when painting so as to not destroy the clouds too much.
Hello all.
I stumble over a Wacom Bamboo borad yesterday at 30% discount so i couldn't resist! So now i decided to try and make a nice map in PS while i learn how to use a wacom board =)
If i'm gonna learn things why not learn 2 things at the same time...
I started yesterday to do the old paper and contour lines for tha land. The only thing i coulden't really get as i wanted was the shape of the land.
I used the Render -> Cloude, add threshold layer and played around. But i couldn't really get those big and nice landmasses. I might try another technique after work today. And I'll also post a WIP picture.

Nice tips. i'll try that as soon as i get home !
Todays progress.
Looks pretty good. I like the trees. The edges of the paper and continents are a little pixellated - might consider softening those up a bit. The coffee cup rings are to die for!

I love coffe stains, don't know why but i do.
Soon weekend then i can spend some quality time with my map. Thank god no children
Gonna se if i can fix the edge a bit, need to do some cities and then find out a way to paint sea and lakes, i want some effect but don't really know what yet.
Good start and a very nice choice of colors so far.
Todays progress... I'm not very satisfied but it's fun.
Can't demand to much from my self, first map much to learn =)
