I'm not really too new here, I've snuck in from time to time and got some awesome maps for my dungeons and dragons campaigns. I don't have any of the programs needed to make my own maps, so I'll probably never have my own posting. I need another map for a campaign coming up so if someone wants something to do, just reply and I'll let you know what I'm looking for. If not, that's cool too

hi daisygirl, congrats on delurking ... unless you have a computer from the last millenium, I bet you can run some sort of graphic program - and for instance GIMP is absolutely free - so there is no excuse not to have fun making your own maps - and remember that we're always ready to help in here

Oy, but if you have a windows or Macintosh or linux computer, pretty much any vintage, you do have the tools, or you can in very short order, with zero cash outlay! Since you've posted here on the interwebz, I presume you have an internet connection, ja? The Gimp (WinMacLinux), in the same class as Photoshop, only free. Many tutorials here on its use in mapping. PhotoPlus SE (Win) for free is about four versions newer than what I started mapping with - SE is an older version, the V9 they pitch for $10 is about three versions back from current. I use V11, which set a friend gave me, but which is still something like 30-60 percent of Photoshop's capability, for 10% of the price. Those are raster graphics. In the Free Yet Very Good vector graphics realm there's Inkscape (WinMacLinux) - again, a number of users here, with help available.

Or if you have a pencil and paper, all you need to scrounge is access to a scanner, and voila, you're online. While obviously if you're seeing a map here, it's digital now, not all of us work only with electrons. I like the odd pen and paper meself, betimes.

And we'll be glad to help with any effort you want to exert.

    Welcome to the Guild!
