    Default Thraeton NG

Since I have way too many half-completed worlds, I started consolidating some of them. I won't go into the background much, but I did decide to fully embrace the "meta setting" - all my worlds are parallel worlds of Earth, and in this case I am actually enhancing the similarities to our world a bit.

    Old maps:

(You may recognize these from some of my earlier threads.)

WIP#1 of the new map, with the Earth's landmasses outlined in dashed yellow:

Needless to say, it's VERY unfinished. The "Europe" part consists of a bunch of translucnet shapes overlapping each other, Africa is just a tentative northern coast, and Asia/Asutralia doesn't exist at all yet. Antarctica is missind on the outline because I'm lazy.

Slow progress: Added in the "neglected continent" map:

The colors have no meaning at this point.

Very slow work on this map so far, but I think i am mostly happy with the "African" coastlines. I'll work on "Europe" and "Asia" next.

Minor progress. I am finding inspiration for the coastlines won't come as easily as I wish.

Ah its a bit lonely in this thread, so here I am.
The Idea to reshape the fundamental forms, of Earth is quiet an interesting approach exspacialy for Alternative Earth Settings. Are you palinning on doing a series of thoses?

    Thanks for dropping by!

I don't intend to create a series of alternate earths. However, the fundamental assumption underlying all of my worldbuilding is that all of the worlds I design are parallel earths, so in a way that's what I will automatically do. Think of that as some sort of meta-setting[1]. In this particular case, I am consolidating several of my worlds into one, because they are basically redundant to each other - covering similar themes - and because I figured it's better to have fewer worlds with more progress than more worlds with little progress. I do work on actual world designs for all of these, not just maps, and there's only so much time in my life... Unfortunately.

The maps I am basing this on - are my "twin continents", Enderra, Thraeton, and of course the "Neglected continent", that is, antarctica without ice sheets.

Enderra and Thraeton were in the first post, here are Twin Continents and Antarctica:

Twin Continents has the least direct influence on the map. I am taking some shortcuts - No plate tectonics as the basis for this - which is a problem in that having plates would actually make drawing coastlines either. But I want to go for "coolness factor" and aesthetics, rather than scientific accuracy.

    [1] I actually have a rudimentary meta-setting in place... http://enderra.com/worlds/terra/

WIP#5. Still struggling with my landmasses. I am fine with Enderra and Shadra, and the "(southwest)" continent, as well as Jinj and Osir. I severely dislike "(East)" and I am not entirely happy with the continent I tentatively named Avalon, especially the Bay Area.

Minor changes, plus annotations / notes:

I've also imported the map into google earth to see it on a sphere. Screenshots:

A very interesting project. I really dig your America analogue. Nice shape. Not so sure about the Europe-Asia-Africa thing. It's a bit too fancy for my taste (not sure how to put that in english so here goes in german: Ist mir etwas zu verzettelt...und zerbrochen. If that makes sense ). Anyway, looking forward to see how this will turn out.
