Holy moly! Good luck
Hi all, I've taken on a pretty big commission - basically, a hand-mapped pseudo-modern city for a novel ... a big hand-mapped pseudo-modern city, since it measures about 60x60 miles, which is why I have to use a lot of paper, so I'll be able to reduce the size for the digital version. Basically, imagine an extraplanar city ... The final map will probably be about 12xA4 ... anyway, here's a first sketch:

This is about 1/12th of the final city - obviously I haven't gone into tremendous detail, because this will be a small part of the final map (and I'm still working out the final style with the author) - but the light grey square indicates an area of the city that will be mapped in greater detail subsequently (i.e. - an extreme closeup).
Holy moly! Good luck

The city's coming along quite well, we've agreed on a labelling scheme that's going to be layered over the base map. Unfortunately time isn't really playing along with me :S ... packing to move makes cartographication harder than expected! Anyway, here it is at app. 20% completion of base map. Aligning the scanned sheets turns out to be a tad difficult, but a bit of work with a textured brush in photoshop takes care of that - I hope.
The dark thick line is a mighty wall keeping the city contained.

That's looking quite impressive, sir.
