Default May 2012 Entry - Lands of Ixoa

It's not much more than a place holder at this point. I'm drawing this on bristol and as soon as I have the basic outline done in pencil, I will switch to ink pen and then water color.

Cool! How does bristol do with watercolor? I have a watercolor block sitting at home just calling my name.

That looks promising. Looking forward to see more of it. And now I need to get started on an entry of my own, although I have little hope of competing with awesome maps like this.

Just started kinda freehand sketching with pen last night while watching television with the wife. It was going smoothly until a big glob of ink plopped out of the pen, which I then proceeded to smear like a moron. :-P

I'll probably stay with it though and see if I can work it in some way.

Bristol holds water color reasonably well, as long as you don't go too overboard with the water.

It kind of looks like a cave entrance but you could turn it into a lake. That might cause you to have to darken all the water areas though and that's a lot of ink. You might, if you don't already have one just go buy a white pen and cover it.

I'm liking how this inked stuff is looking though. I think I will see about going by the local art supply and picking up some pens myself.

I'm going to restart this a third time...just ordered some different colors of ink and some art board.

Fun! But be careful -- I've found that the colored acrylic inks I use actually run with watercolors. The only ink I have that doesn't is Speedball black calligraphy ink.

Off to another start on this one last night. I'm not real happy with how the compass rose is coming out, but hopefully I can still salvage it. it'd be a shame to waste this piece of art board.
