Default May/June Lite Entry - Through the Splotch Isles

Edit: This map contains mermaid nudity. Beware!

I've been wanting to try a technique for painting island groups with watercolors, and this challenge seems appropriate for that Basically I just painted some blotches of paint on moist paper, and then blew at them to give them some interesting shapes. When dry I touched up some edges a little, and that's where I am now:

Eventually this map will show the path one ship took through the group of islands, which I call the Splotch Isles and might be the remains of a violently erupting volcano, or of some fool throwing paint into the ocean randomly. I think I'll focus the map more on what was happening on the ship, instead of location names. It'll maybe make more sense later

The size of this is A4 by the way, and I think it will be watercolors only.

That's an interesting idea! Do you plan to paint details on the islands, or just the water and path of the ship?
The best maps are the ones we like the most after looking at the longest.

Yup, I will add some detail to the islands. Mountains, definitely, and maybe forests and rivers as well, though I don't want to add to much as that might make the sea look empty, and as the sea is supposed to be focal in this challenge that'd be bad

Sketched in some decorations, and gave it some more color. I painted the blue over both the sea and islands, to tone them and keep the color scheme tight, though that messed up some of the coasts so I'll have to sharpen them again.

Success I was a little worried she would come across as tired or arrogant instead, so I'm really happy you saw that she was bored. Thanks Korash!

Today's work, redefined the coasts and colored the decorations (though there's still some more detail to add).

I'll add a nudity warning in the first post, and one here as well: nudity!

This is looking really good, and the bored mermaid is nice, but I think I like the disinterested octopus the best.
