Hey, nice! We can always use more of this kind of thing.
I've just recently downloaded GIMP and Inkscape in hopes of making better maps (it seems to me that the artists I like the most on here use some combination of the two, or their non-free counterparts). While I'm still working through the tutorials for GIMP, Inkscape is intuitive enough that I figured I'd just play around with it a bit, and these are my first results: a handful of basic shield outlines for the sake of making heraldry. I plan to eventually work up a set of ordinaries and subordinaries for each shield shape, plus a smattering of charges. The latter will probably be last, since those seem like they will take the most skill in Inkscape. As always, comments and criticism are always welcome!

indeed i was thinking about adding a couple of heraldric shields to a wannabe map i was figuring in my mind...
thank you! Simple but useful.
Everything that let me reduce the "secondary" work giving more time to work on the main subject is good for me!
Thanks guys. I'm going to work on some ordinaries today, I think. In the meantime, here is a round shield variant that lacks a boss. Let me know if you want any other shield shapes!

Here is a zip of a bunch of ordinaries for the heater above.
These should be pretty helpful, thanks!
Quite welcome! I'll tackle some charges in my next post, even if they're just various styles of crosses. That'll probably be in a few days, though, as I need a day off to make much headway.
If you are interested. in the following RAR file you will find both SVG files that the conversion to PNG and brushes for GIMP.

For my heraldry I use this : 120+ Vector Shields, Coat of Arm (click the black rectangle)
It's mostly for Illustrator but it's said that it might work with other software too.
Sweet! Something nice and simple like this is sure to come in handy.
