why not a contest about the elements of the map ?
Yeah, alright. Might be worth a shot.
Nah, I'm gonna be busy, y'know, sleeping or something
The central part of most maps is, not suprisingly, the mappy bit, but they also contain cartouches, borders, scale bars, legends, title frames, coats of arms/flags etc. This idea is simple: make a map that leaves out the mappy bit. The winner will be judged on the other components of their 'map.'
This idea might work best if each entry simply leaves a large empty hole in their image, or perhaps everyone has to use the same standard map (although that could limit contestants in style/genre a it).
What do people think?
why not a contest about the elements of the map ?
Oh god. We might as well make it a heraldry challenge. Then people can get as complex as they want!
I think if you just do "map elements" people will still be more caught up in the mappy-bits
I like the idea of white space in the center. a) you can try to make it so vivid that people can *almost see* the map, and b) I struggle with white space

not mapception (a map within a map within a map, although that's an excellent Idea.) a map OF a map. You have to map a map. I would leave that open to interpretation, but one rule would be that it couldn't just be a map within another map. You would have to map the elements of a map. Or tropes. or something.
God. that was confusing.
A meta-map. Not a bad idea, but I think I prefer my original suggestion.
so like... compass rose, key, outline, etc?
