    What to do about rivers?

    I have the rivers set in a separate layer
    so far they are just blue lines


    what next Drop shadow?


    i am looking for ideas (that hopefully blend well with the evolving style of the map)

    Click the "User CP" link on the left-hand side of the header bar. In the left column under "Your Control Panel" look under "Networking" for "Pictures & Albums." Clicking on that will take you to a page where you can "Add Album."

    not much progress I'm afraid. I still have to figure out what i want to do about the mountains

    i might investigate the gradient mesh tool although i suspect it might be to involved to be a practical solution

    i wish the CC3 sold patterns and brushes for illustrator

    Looks to me like taking a layer, setting the darkest area you want as a very dark blue and then take a lighter colour, making a contour, taking an even lighter color, and so on until you have the size of continents you want, then blurring it.
