Default New: This is an inspiring place!

    Hi all!

I am an architect by day, and a dabbler in all kinds of things at night. I been doodling maps since I was a child.

A few years ago leading up to Game of Thrones Season 1 I wanted to print a large format map for the watch party. I found this an awesome illustrated map through Google image search, but I don't like stealing other people's work, and I wanted to blow it up large... so I decided to make a vector based version of it.

Fast forward to the present. A friend of mine is getting married in a month. He LOVES Wheel of Time. His future wife LOVES maps. So I dusted off the old Illustrator file and updated it (more powerful computer!). I started to search for inspiration, and suddenly realized that all the maps I was loving was on THIS SITE.

Which brought me full circle... the Westeros map that inspired me 5 years ago? THIS THREAD: http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=6683

I will post later my WIP / Finished. Just thought I'd introduce myself.

Also, This was that Westeros map I did 5 years ago for reference....

Well done Jay and welcome to the Guild.
That's a good an introduction. The map looks splendid.
What sort of architectural work do you do?
Would love to see any other maps or floorplans too.
    Cheers,
    John

    J. Edward,

My architectural career has been mostly on larger projects. My early career was mostly in large scale planning projects in South Korea. Lots of master plans and competitions. So making large format illustrated plans quickly was a necessary skill. In recent years I have become focused on commercial office buildings / master plans. All contemporary, streamlined, hyper detailed work. So it is fun to distress by drawing in a more expressive style!

One day I'll post some of my master plans, though a lot of those are still private / secret
