Post How fast is this web site

Recently I seem to find this site very slow and most sites seem to be normal speed except maybe EnWorld and a few selected others. Can I ask everyone to rate how fast they get page updates from a click on a new thread or post.

I just clicked on three threads to open in new tabs, and they took about 10 seconds to load each. It's definitely slower than it was before.

It's definitely slowed down recently. Map thumbnails used to load pretty quickly, now most of the time I'm forced to click so that they go to a new tab, then I go back to the original tab and move on to another post or wait for the thumbnail to load before replying.

I've noticed this both at work and at home, where I have a fiber connection.

Ok, so its not just me then. I dont know what could be doing it or what Arcanas set up is. I dont know whether this site is hosted on a local machine or an ISP server.

From a quick search there does appear to be viruses that take all clicks and forward them to an ever growing list of relay sites just in case you log in and send your password through so my advice for the immediate future is not to log in if you get signed out or else you will possibly lose your user entry in the site and have it used to forward email spam. I dont know if this is the case in this instance tho.

Hopefully Arcana will be able to get a handle on why its taking a while and whether all the net traffic is being diverted.

I suspect that it is do to our growing membership. Arcana may have to increase his available bandwidth.

Please make an effort to tag all threads. This will greatly enhance the usability of the forums.

I've also found the site much slower. I clicked "unusably long time" because new threads are taking me 25-30 seconds and you didn't provide an answer in those terms. An "unusably long time" is a very relative concept particularly for those of us who live in the third world and have only recently migrated from dial-up.

I would expect that the extra members would slow it slightly but for me this has happened in the last few days. A decent PC should handle 30 off users requests and 10 or so members images and attachments.

I used to have to put a wait statement in my thumbnail grabber so as not to fetch the pages too quickly. Now the script can take up to 10 mins to run. It hasn't progressively slowed down. Its fallen off a cliff. Something has happened.

I sent a PM to Arcana yesterday but he must be away for a short break. If there is anything I could help with then id do it. Can't have my favorite web site down... But it seems as tho its definitely a server side issue. I would try getting wire shark out on it and see where all the bandwidth is going. My hunch is a zillion emails per day flogging viagra....
