Wip [Pixel Art] Natural Map of the Southern Muna Peninsula and surrounding isles

    What a mouthful.

This is the second map in a series of eight that I plan to make (the first map can be found here). It is also the first time ever I go back to a project I had dropped without completely redoing it, which means that I might just be able to make all eight maps.

The map itself is a pixel art map 'natural map' which aims to look like a late 19th-century map. Why pixel art? because I find the challenges it presents interesting and I like the way it looks.

The basic biomes are already set, the next step is dithering and then adding details. I have made some underlying changes which mean I'll have to revisit the previous map to make corrections as they are meant to be part of a single 'publication'.

I'm about half-done with the land dithering. I also fixed the lettering on the legend.

It helps that I don't actually paint it pixel by pixel, that would be a truly titanic task. I'm using Aseprite, it lets you make pattern brushes that you can use specifically for this kind of situation.

Almost done with all land, just missing the mountains. I also desertified the western region as I was underrepresenting rain shadow.

The mountains look amazing. How long does this take you?
