    Post Photorealism to strive for

Given that some of the forum members here like to go for photo realistic look in their maps. I thought I would share this image of the Iberian Peninsula. It beautifully displays many different types of terrain, plus I think it’s just a pretty picture to share.

This image has the resolution of 1km per pixel by following the following link you can find the same picture and similar once down to a resolution of 250m per pixel.

I believe those would be clouds.

Great image, I know that NASA has a huge repository of these sorts of pictures. Great for inspiration.

The White on the land is snow. You can see how it has sharp bits/fractal look. It's all the mountains separating the valleys.

The white over the sea are clouds. They have a more even flowing look. Also tend to look a bit like waves. Yes those are cloud waves in the atmosphere. Created by turbulence of air going over mountains and gravity waves.

I would love to get that kind of realistic detail in a map.

The sharp clarity blows me away, something that maybe one day I can get to.

That was the word I was looking for but couldn't quite manage to verbalise.

It has incredibly sharp clarity. I especially like the mountains and the fractal shape of the snow. It's almost like looking at a drawing of mathematical fractal curve.
