Help Cowboy Map - Need Help.

    Howdy Partners,

I'm playing around more with my vector graphics program. Made a custom brush which makes those triangular escarpment lines. The only problem is that I'm not entire certain what style of map they would fit. So I went for something very cartoony in the form of this cowboy map. Only problem is that I don't know where to go from here or even if the elements on this map look inconsistant....any suggestions or references?

    Cheers

    Ravs

    Question

    How about posting the map?

This is a great map and definitely something I could use. I'm actually working on a Western adventure currently and I'm in need of some western style maps. Kudos!

Try a color overlay on the escarpments. They look out of sorts and contrast too much being in black like that.

Otherwise, looks great, I like the effect they create.

edit: I also just realized that where the road crosses the stream, it just looks odd. I realize that the stream is probably shallower there but... I think it's the texture you have outlining the road at that point that throws off me eyes. The river flowing over that point in road would make it a bit different in that spot... I'd suggest either removing the outline across that portion totally or maybe a good blurring of the outline in that area to reflect the work of the constantly flowing water.

One last note, on the stream, the shading looks great but, at the top of the stream, where there is a small pondlike area, you should burn the shadow in a bit more towards the center.

I really like the way the map is coming, I agree with Duvik, Where the road crosses the stream it appears a little off, maybe putting some current or slight rock texturing to show that the river get shallower would work. Other than that all I can think of is maybe giving the hills a tad bit of color, maybe just slightly darkening or lightening them.

Oh and I love the signs, haha
