Right on. You make notes like I do (and amazingly similar handwriting!)
this'll look nice when it's done.
Figured that I'd throw my hat in with how I set up my maps for my personal use. I put in socio-political boundaries as well as an economic system. Right now I just have the terrain, roads, and cities done. I usually just leave the notes as is but I'm hoping to do little video-game icons for the various raw materials and finished goods so the notes are just place-holders for now. Oh, and I added a new wrinkle to my terrain, well a lot of wrinkles...plastic wrap filter.

Looks very good so far, Ascension. I'm actually working on a map of a quasi-Asian empire with practically the same idea, goods, trade lanes, etc. but I'm not sure if I can finish it in time.
That's a gorgeous border. I like the plastic wrap effect too.
So here's what I've been doing...raiding Google images for photos of things to turn into icons. I take no credit for the actual photos used as all I did was extract them from their backgrounds, composite some together (like the chickens and foods), hit 'em with accented edges and posterization. Made some lil shields, though. The extraction process is what takes forever. All in all, I think they look pretty cool - but I'm biased of course. Lots more icons to make then I'll finish the shields and do labels.

This is looking bloody amazing.
(well of course. hah!) to be honest, on the map for the last challenge when you worked it into a similar effect to this (the kind of ripply bits) it didn't do anything for me. However for some reason, it's perfect on this map - maybe because it works so well with the symbols you've set up.
I'm looking even less forward to the voting this month than I did for the last So many good entries again..

Very good. Again a challenge with many great entries.
I've mostly just been playing around - searching for something different - and not really making a map. I think that I could adapt this with further experimenting. I need to put in some labels and a scale to mappify it but I'll get to that if I have time.
