Really? I guess as someone who grew up in the US it looked totally obvious to me what was land and what was water.

Same here. I really like the idea that Cibola, et al, come from an adjacent dimension which has magic. It sounds like a good set-up. I must ask - are Skraelings one of the few nonhuman types you mentioned?

There are Skraelings, but they're human.

Niiice! I really like the style of the second map. Did you make the original outline by hand? the coastline flow is awesome. What program did you use for the second take?

@ukie: I traced the original outline from a 17th century French map. I used a hard round 3 pixel brush and just drew it, trying not to include any sharp, jarring coastlines; the color and overall appearance seems to look better in this style if you keep the coasts somewhat smooth. I just got my new PC and upgraded to CS6, so that's what I've been using.

More to come on this in a week or two; I need to draw some mountains first since I like how lxdengar's borrowed brushes turned out. Just need to create my own now!

A small update. Added some color to the various regions - the reddish-hued ones are the Crown Colonies - colonies of Westernesse (this world's England analog) with a lot of admixture from natives and people from our Earth (Roanoke, for one).
