I love seeing the progression of this map. The side-view drawing is helpful and interesting, and doesn't take away from the map itself. Everything is detailed, and I like being able to see into the buildings an the different levels of the tower. Honestly, I'd love to see more buildings! But of course, that depends where you're taking this map. I love the idea of tons of buildings, but the feeling now is that there's a sort of sparseness (at least in the area immediately around the tower). Maybe there's a larger town down that road leading away from the cliffs? I love you're texturing, details, and how easy it is to read such a unique map. Terrain like that can be hard, and you've done a great job with it.

Thanks! Yeah this area is just the place near the mage tower, theres a town about the same size half a day's ride away from here that serves as a port to the island. I'm trying to go for a sparseness here since its a small island that has a bit of independence from the rest of the kingdom. The mages are somewhat above the political process and the kingdom has enough troubles than to try and mess with magic users.

I also wanted to give a feeling that the tower was here first and everything else sprung up around it, the forge is closer to the tower, followed by the general goods shop and finally an inn when adventurers became more interested in the tower's vast library. The port town is so far away because over the years they've learned a few things about how fickle magic can be at times and how flammable houses truly were. Also, magic users themselves are sort of weird and just because they live on the same island doesn't mean they have to share the same town.

@Larb: Definitely going to add more depth to the cliffs, I was thinking about it earlier but was also feeling a tad lazy... your comment gave me the gentle nudge that I needed :0
