    Roughly spoken: hot spots are the source of vulcanism on a tectonic plate, in contrast to vulcanic activities ad the edges of plates. Hawaii is the prime example.

    That's one of my questions, actually: I don't know where such spots would occur, given my plates' locations and movement.
