Very interesting Pyrandon, i think i will try my hand at that type of map. I found your tutorial both excellent and informative...

Thank you for your comments, gentlemen. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Here's another version--a "test" version, filtered, desaturated, and hand tweaked--this one with the express purpose of labeling & creating a locations key.

    Take care

I have to say that I like the originals better than this last one. I like the colors and details on the first two. This one just seems to loose a lot of the "wow" factor.

Now, if this is going to be something like the GM version, and the others are going to be the players, then this will work fine as a map just showing the location keys.

I like the desaturated one quite a bit. It looks like something the characters might actualy find in the campaign world: A three color watercolor painting on parchment.

I like the blobby imprecision of this version, too. It gets across the essential information without burdening the viewer with too many irrelevant details.

Yeah, that's exactly the idea: don't clog up the main map with millions of numbers and labels, but make a second one for that purpose. I agree there's not as much eye candy to it; you're right on that.

Thanks, Midgardsormr, for your comments, too. I had a lot of trouble with the color scheme (I always do); do you think these colors work? I worry it's too "pinky".

Well, I don't have a problem with pink, so it looks fine to me. I'm not sure if changing the color of the "matte" will enhance or mitigate the pinkiness of the buildings, but if you wanted to experiment, you could try a three-color scheme.

Set your key color to the 30-degree orange and choose the "pale" variation. That looks to me to be fairly close to your current scheme, and it's got some dusky greens that might work for you.

Adding another color might play havoc with the bright red labels, of course.

Okay, I need to use that color scheme generator more often! I have it bookmarked, but have yet to use it--and it's sweet. Especially since you pointed out the buttons across the bottom. Thanks, Midgardsormr! I will play with that!
