Try putting a dark olive coloured glow around the white text for the land. the text for the water looks fine imo.
Oh and btw, the map looks amazing; good job.
Okay, this is only the second map I've ever made. This is being done in Photoshop CS4, with some textures done in Genetica. It's pretty massive - 5000x5000px.
Now, I'm concerned I might have gotten myself into a bit of a hole here - quite simply, the colour palate is so rich that I have no idea how to go about annotating it clearly. I've included a couple of examples with example names to give an idea of what I'm talking about. I've also included a general overview showing the whole map so you can tell me how wrong all the rivers and everything is
Any ideas?

Or you could try black text with a white outer glow. I find that works best.
And that is a great looking map.

Just whipped this up based on your clip. Although not the same font, it demonstrates the white outer glow.

I think that you should do some colored text with an outer white rim and possibly reduced opacity. Something like Tear's Westeros map or Tom Cardin's Voradin map.
Excellent map btw
Great looking map !! The black is fine for the rivers (maybe dial the opacity down just a little) the white is a little bright maybe an ivory or antique white with a black glow (although the black with a white glow looks good too..)

Lovely textures! I for one would like to see the entire map.
You're probably right Aval, seeing as it's named 'Overview'. But one can wish for an entire continent in this style, not?
