    Yes, you easiest way to create the illusions of a recessed floor is to draw the floor as a multiploy with a 'hole' in the centre.

    Create a new sheet for the 'Lower Floor' and place a multiploy there representing the lower floor.

    On the 'upper floor' give a sheet effect of a glow to create the impression of shadow going down.

    As the Floorplan Issue, I would need to play a little with this to recreate what you have happening.
