Hi guys, great site here.

I've been away from any RPG stuff for quite a few years and am starting to get back into it. I ran GURPS, TMNT, and AD&D v1.5. This go-round I'm looking at developing an AD&D style campaign with some "house rules". My first step is making the world map and then starting to zoom-in for details and I wanted to ask you guys a few questions. My previous maps were square grid / hand drawn. I'm switching to hex grid and PC software.

My first question is pretty basic. What scales are you using and how are you subdividing each scale? I've found a couple methods so far: factors of 3,4,5 and 3-rotated (I attached an example of each).

What do you use and what problems or benefits have you discovered?
