    Default Name this projection!

    Hey everyone!

I'm working on making a globe and I was wondering what is the name of this projection?

It's a different way of doing an interrupted map with the gores joined at a pole rather than along the equator. I don't know which underlying projection is being used though. I'd guess at either Sinusoidal, or maybe Transverse Mercator.

I would say a gnomonic projectio centred on each Pole with a bit of buckminster fuller...

    an old thread but
the software used for the "flower petal" projection
    http://astrogeology.usgs.gov/maps/pl...aps-and-globes

was custom built in house software for the old ISIS2 gis software

this was NOT included in the upgrade of isis FORTRAN and C code to the c++ in ISIS3
"daisy" can be built from the old isis 2 code
    http://isis.astrogeology.usgs.gov/Is...stallation.cgi

please note the operating systems that it supports
    RedHat 9
RedHat Enterprise Linux WS Release 3
RedHat Enterprise Linux WS Release 4
    SuSE 8.2
    SuSE 9.0
    SuSE 9.3
    SuSE 10.0
    SuSE 10.1

NONE of them are still supported

    BUT
the current RHEL7 can run rhel4 in a KVM just fine

the output from the daisy help
DAISY - Create a "flower petal" projection for globes
Create a series of 12 Transverse Mercator projections that are 32 degrees in longitude and 91 degrees in latitude to form a "flower petal" projection for making globes. If the northern hemisphere is being created, the latitude range is -1 to +90. If the southern hemisphere is being created, the latitude range is -90 to 1. The petals are formed by changing the center longitude and map rotation in steps of 30 degrees for each Transverse Mercator projection. Each section is put into the mosaic. The final center of the projection is a Lambert Azimuthal Equal-area centered on the pole and covers from -90 to -75 or 75 to 90 degrees latitude and 360 degrees in longitude. This is the last cube that is placed in the mosaic.

    remember this is OLD code
ti has hardcoded into the scripts
    things like this
    " netscape $ISISHTML/documentation.html"

When was the last time anyone used "Netscape navigator "
for me that was 1996 or 98

now one could use " ppmglobe "
    http://netpbm.sourceforge.net/doc/ppmglobe.html

set to 12 and manually cut and remap each gore
