Thanks for the welcome JB, Steel General (love your avatar image, I still read and collect comics like some people eat potato chips), and Neon Knight.
The ships are conventional historical (ie. two and three masted schooners, galleons, etc.) but fitted with grids so we can use them in our D&D fantasy settings. I added masts, crows nests, and
multiple levels to give the game a little more visual "pop" . One of the drawbacks to traditional floorplans when using three dimensional figurines. Had to ax the idea of using rigging, sails, and yardarms though as there was no way the figurines could make use of them. As to the "just" artwork, I'd say many of the maps here are just that, artwork!
