I've always liked this style. The use of color in your map really makes it look great.

What do you mean by elemental activity?

I managed to get the volcanic activity to a stage that I liked, and surprised myself with how easy the smoke effect was.

What I couldn't do was think of a way to represent the 'elemental activity' in a manner consistent with the map's style. Elemental activity in this case was supposed to be open portals or rifts to the elemental planes through which spirits can flow freely. The spirits then manifest their element, resulting in a primordial clash of fire, earth, air and water amongst the islands off the east coast.

I'll have to think about it some more and come back to it.
