Wip March/April 2012 Lite Challenge Entry: Valma Islands

I could not resist those blobs. Kind of hypnotising. Have fun.

Edit: Something about image quality, I´have this new scanner ( Canon Lide 210 ) and I´m not happy with the scan settings. I hope it will improve as I play with them to discover the best "fit" for tasks like this.

Try the RGB scan mode rather than black and white. RGB (and grayscale) will give you nice smooth edges; black and white will be all jaggedy. For those times when you really want lots of dynamic range, use 16-bit compoents rather than 8-bit and manipulate the images in something like Photoshop before you downconvert to 8-bit. It can make a world of difference.

Thanks for the advice, will give it a try. I worked nonetheless and continued foreward on the road of learning.

The LiDE series of Canon scanners is pretty nifty, but the auto-tone it keeps trying to push on you is horrible. Disable it whenever possible!

I recommend just turning off auto-tone in the scanner software and then using your graphics software for tonal control.

Created a compass and droped it in....
I fear by following the blob layout I got the composition a bit wrong. The center is much to empty for my taste. An island or something is missing but I don´t want to add. Perhaps I should have enlargend the sea area surrounding the Valma Islands. I´ll have to keep that in mind for future projects. It feels good to have done everything bey myself, except of course the font. Wouldn´t have made it without the CG! THX everyone.

I don't think the middle looks empty at all, looks good to me
