    Help Scaling Maps in Photoshop

This topic has been touched on here and there, but my question is still looming. I have been using Ascension's tutorials to make my continent maps. The scale is 1 px = 1 mile. I want to know how I can "zoom in" or go to a closer scale such as 1 px = 1/8 mile (660 ft.). I have provided the particular map that I am currently trying to do this with.

I have circled the area that I have in mind in the thick red circle. The entire image is 2800 px x 2800 px at 300 pixels/in.

Um, I really suck at math (more so at 2am) but I think if you have a 1 to 1 and you want 1 to 1/8, you need to make it 8 times bigger? I took the liberty of downloading your image and doing the following: bigger the circled bit by 400%; gaussian blur 1.5 to smooth it a bit; and unsharp mask set to 100 1.0 0 to bring back some of the crispyness. Mind you, even re-sizing this much it looses a lot in quality. But I don't know of any other way to do it. Maybe someone with more knowledge can enlighten us.

    Basically yes - x8.

Section 11 onwards. Maybe you can try some of the newer fancier resampling options out there now. Resampling upwards is always a limited exercise so for this reason always make any maps at as high a res as you can stand if you think your going to want to do that in the future.

The way I approach things is I go ahead and do the resize, then I merely use that image as a template for the new map. Here's an example of my workflow:

Of course, I was drilling in much deeper than only 8:1. It's more like 25:1, I think.
