One thing I've noticed about this method in my own use of it is that the embossing can be a little over-much. I softened my edges on the shores up a bit by selecting the land mask, shrinking the selection, feathering it a bit, and applying a blur to the selected edges on the bump map layer. I softened up the rivers a bit by selecting the river mask, feathering that, and applying a low-opacity medium gray soft airbrush to the bump map in those areas. I personally liked the look better afterwards, seemed less artificial. Just a suggestion. Don't be afraid to deviate from tutorial instructions and experiment a bit. You might surprise yourself.

Otherwise it looks great so far. I've grown to like this method. Makes impressive-looking maps with relative ease.
