Thank You Very Much, from researching Pokemon I have realized that all you need to do is tweak some things and suddenly it can be really cool for any age. So To delve into a little History of My reinvented Pokemon World.
Around 5000 years ago (100 BCE, CE being after the fall of the empire) the many cultures of the world had been conquered by a massive empire known as The Poketi <Aztec-Incan like>. The Poketi were most likely the most technologically advanced, and were heavy practitioners of Genetic Engineering. One of the major use of Genetic Engineering was in creating creatures for the sport of Gladiatorial Beast Combat, where Trainers would raise creatures (Known as Pokemon) to do battle against each other. By the time the Poketi Empire fell they had engineered so many species (So far there are over 9 Trillion identified species, most of these species have evolved in the wild however) that the now wild pokemon had almost completely taken over as the only form of life on the planet. Humans regressed to an Medieval Age Technologically. It wouldnt be until 4750 CE that Human would reobtain their past Technological Level.
The World is now only divided into two Powers, The League Of Governments (The League) and The New Order of Allied Territories (NOAT).
The League is the greater power controlling over 70% of the Worlds surface. It is a somewhat Capitalist state.
NOAT is a rebellious collection of nation states intent on overthrowing The League.
see so add a good plot, make the Pokemon actually look cool not cartoony, and up the action/ drama/ stuff a bit and boom... you got yourself something good. I had this image in my head of Pokemon being used in the rebel war, And the players can do either just be a group of Trainers creating a collection of the Pokemon, or you could expand to have them have to decide on the outcome of the war by being dragged into it.
