I always envy your Basic skills in composition and your use of landmass forms.
Cant wait to see this taking shape

My mountains often look like that to begin with. I actually have a little watercolor map in my sketchbook with mountains and hills penciled to that effect, each shaded with a red-brown brushstroke. It's simple but effective. I might be tempted to apply a grunge mask to the crosshatching to break it up a bit and subtle-ify it.
Sooo... I decided to completely alter the shape of the region. I decided to go for more of a complete Mediterranean vibe. The northern landmass is home to a Roman Republic equivalent, in the east is a faux-Persian Empire, and in the south are the pseudo-Greek city-states.
I concur with Eilatehn, this new landshape is great!
seriously, this is getting annoying :p
is that the whole map or a cropped section? doesnt seem like the whole thing to me. have to say i think this is a bit of a step down rom the archipelago you had before, which offered a lot more scope for interesting details in the map, though thats more of my personal taste than anything wrong with the new one
@Eilathen: glad the mountains meet with your approval.
@Max: thanks!
@vorro: as a matter of fact, this IS a cropped and altered version of the map below that I finished Friday. I actually went to this close-up version because I felt like the big map didn't have enough room to include more detail...
Finished up (most of) the borders and cities, and started adding in some regional and national labels.
