I would like to add a border, but I may not have time before the contest runs out. I may fiddle more with the color, though some of the editable files I was using before were lost, and that particular bit of text is a static pasted image, not currently a text file I can change. I can probably paint over the red, though. For the rest of the labels I think I will switch to a more readable, if less exciting font.

I may also reduce the size of the compass, as it currently takes up a lot of room and kind of draws the eye away from the rest of the map.

The only thing about the compass that really needs to be changed is the white outer ring ... that is what really draws your eye. I think that if the outer ring was clear (to show the water below) the compass would work just fine.
