Totally fun. You just need to combine your love of golf and D&D for the most twisted adventure ever, involving dropping alchemical bombs down the right holes from a distance to destroy infernal gophers. I like both the dirt and the bunkers ideas, as for the water you should check around there are several really good tips somewhere here on the forums about water, I'd put some sand around and under it to help with appearances also (you can use a technique similar to the one you learned in the tutorial for adding hills but with a sandier texture). My only knowledge of golf is the miniature kind, though a deadly battle on a giant's mini-golf course has potential too (the windmill is of course and actual windmill).

Good suggestion on the water. I'll noodle with that.

As for the other suggestions, I'll overlay a hex grid and put together a wandering monster table. We'll need bogey-men, giant eagles, and of course, a few Scottish berzerkers wielding a Sand Wedge +2.
