Thanks for those comments. And Xeonicus, I definitely couldn't draw mountains like that with just a mouse either, which is why I've drawn the whole map by hand, so far.

The hand-drawn part of the map is now finished, and so the remaining tasks are colouring it, labelling it, and, if I have time, adding little pictures from the various stories that are meant to be depicted. I might not finish in time for the voting, but I'm now one step closer.

I'd be keen to hear what people think, so far.

    THW

PS: Ignore the red colouring. It willeventually be turned into something more normal, but at the moment, I'm rather curious to see how this map would turn out if painted in bloody hues.

PPS: Oh, and the name of the map has changed. It is now the Land of Silver and Golden Apples (after a poem by W. B. Yeats).

This map looks great so far! Nice job with the stitching. I'm looking forward to your progress.

    ...That red is really unsettling.

My eyes go right to the forests and mountains both of which are beautiful. I'd have no problem with an red rendering as long as the cliffs stood out more. Wonderful job!

    Thanks.

Flocko: maybe it would be less disturbing if the seas weren't blood red. It does rather insinuate a gory history, doesn't it?

Madcowchef: I'm glad you like the mountains and forests. I wasn't sure the forests worked well. The main difficulty is in keeping my drawing style consistent. But then, I am probably super-aware of the problems in this map

The secret is to stare at it long enough that everything that looked right at first looks all wrong, you question why you even started working on it, and then set fire to your house and begin reenacting scenes from Lord of the flies. Which is to say I know that feeling of being hyper aware of anything you don't like about your own work.

Is it "The Song of Wandering Aengus”?

I've added another update, this time with some of the colours made closer to their final form. Hills/mountains, cliffs, and deserts/beaches still have to be done. A few of the colours also don't work, in my opinion, so I'd like people's suggestions for ways to improve the colour scheme.
