I really like the water-color look of the water and the 'old map' feel of the image. Very nice work.
I notice you're leaning more towards the map from the first two Nolan-directed movies than to Eliot Brown's original design for the comics from 2000 here. Any particular reason for that preference?

Larger copies of my maps located on flickr and can be used for your enjoyment.
Here's my progress on this. I nearly lost the entire project due to a computer crash while I was saving the file. Luckily I had done a computer backup hours before the crash, so I lost very little.
I'm really trying to bridge the gap between the Brown map and the movie map. Both maps have been used interchangeably in the comics recently, sometimes even directly contradicting one another. Most readers probably never notice it, but it drives me nuts. I'm actually starting to veer a little more towards the Elliot R. Brown map as I progress, while maintaining the look of the movie map.

Another update. Starting on the labels now.

I've added the railways and a lot more labels. I've started labeling streets as well, which is going to take some time.
I've started adding in little easter eggs as well. Many of the street names are named after people important to the history of Batman (actors, writers, artists, creators). By the time I am done I will probably have something like a hundred or so hidden names in the map.

This is finished. I thought I was going to lose my sanity while I was labeling all of those streets.
Thanks for following this map's progress!

Absolutely gorgeous. People will love this. I hope you sell a million of them.
Excellent map. Did you use a pixel or a vector program for the layout?
The whole thing was done in Photoshop.

That quickly?
I could have sent you a copy of my "known streets and neighbourhoods" list. I'd been keeping it from the late 1990's up until September 2011.
