    Help 17th Century World Map

So I'm working on a map for a world set in the 17th century. The world has been heavily modified in appearance of landmasses (Canada has had a huge chunk cut out, and South East Asia has shifted to the east and has collided into Australia for example). I've got font ideas already set up. The entire world won't be visible to the players, only small bits and pieces. If anyone could suggest things to do that could improve this to be like a map made during the 17th century, that would be greatly appreciated.

Here you can see some examples of real maps of that period for inspiration:

-City (the detail of border illustrations is very nice)
-Countries (glowing borders to distinguish countries, sea lines)
-World map (distortion of the map, the stellar clouds and monsters in the sea)

Thanks, that world map was exactly the thing I was looking for.
