Question Software for creating commercial-style city maps

    Hi,

I'm looking to create a map of an invented/fantasy city that will have the look and feel of a commercial city map. Is there a software package (preferably freeware) that the members here would recommend? I would really appreciate any guidance you can offer.

    Thanks,

    Matthew

Do you mean GIS software? This would be the kind of thing professional cartographers use to make modern commercial maps. Quantum GIS and Grass GIS are two I'm aware of.

If you mean open source photoshop-style software, then GIMP(raster) and Inkscape(vector) are probably your best bet. Then you just draw whatever you like in the style of your choosing.

It is actually possible to create modern fantasy street maps using ArcGIS (the most popular GIS software available and made by ESRI) even.
