It's actually based on John Olsson's Fractal World Map Generator. The algorithms and results are very different. The donjon people(person?) did add a coloring scheme based on the Mogensen default. That makes the maps look a little more similar.

I used to love johol's FWMG, but anymore I'd just strongly suggest using Mogensen's generator. Far superior, and with a bit of work you can generate 16-bit elevations.

PS: FWMG is much much older than Mogensen's planet. And it shows.

the newer version "planet" the -h ( heightmap ) option dose work
it outputs a signed integer 32 bit ascii text image

the old one ( ie the one i built 10 years ago ) can be forced into it by using a color *.col file with values in the 16 bit range
