Map The Journal of Capt. Ulysses L. Dampier

This is a little project I have been working on to try and incorporate a map into an old/weathered journal design. I decided to use Australia (then known as New Holland) and the real-world journal of English explorer William Dampier as inspiration.

The text in this map is taken from the actual journal of William Dampier, from his voyage in 1699 to explore Australia.

Obviously, it's not a fantasy map without a bit of fantasy! So, this is a page from the journal of (fictional) explorer Ulysses L. Dampier as he recounts his and his crew's observations having arrived on the shores of Wolfsbane Island.

I would really appreciate your comments/critique!

Made in GIMP. The original paper texture is from here: http://shadowhousecreations.blogspot...apers-set.html

Very nice job! I especially like the font you used, it really gives a sense of handwritten while still being quite readable.

Thanks chick. I always find font the toughest part to get right! Marigold Wild is the name if you're curious.

That's a very pleasant map Cirias. It has a lot of atmosphere to it.

This is great. I love the way you've done the binding right down the middle of the map. It's really well done.

Oh, very cool idea! Love the layout of the continent - good shape. I think the only critique I can offer is that the text is a little too sharp for a weathered book like this. Maybe try and blur it just a touch, perhaps fade out places a bit?
